Foliant — Privacy policy

Last updated: October 2, 2026

Short version: Foliant has no servers, no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. Your PDFs and everything Foliant derives from them never leave your device.

What Foliant is

Foliant is a PDF reader that restructures text PDFs into a book layout. It runs entirely on your device — as a web app in your browser, or as an Android app that wraps the same local code. There is no Foliant server.

Your PDF files

PDFs you open are parsed locally, in your browser, using a copy of pdf.js that ships inside the app. Your files are never uploaded anywhere. Closing the app or clearing its storage removes them from your device.

What is stored on your device

Deleting the app's data — or clearing site data in your browser — erases all of the above permanently.

What we never do

Purchases (Android app)

The optional one-time Premium unlock is sold through Google Play Billing. The purchase flow, payment details and receipts are handled entirely by Google; they are governed by Google's privacy policy. Foliant never sees your payment information. To confirm your entitlement (including after reinstalls), the app asks Google Play on your device whether your Google account owns the purchase — that check happens between your device and Google, and Foliant stores only a local yes/no flag.

Changes to this policy

If the policy ever changes, the updated date above will change with it. Given how Foliant works — nothing leaves your device — changes are expected to be rare.
